In the second practice match, which was played at the LBI ground on Wednesday, Leon Johnson’s X1 won the toss and elected to take first strike. Despite a favorable opening stand of 60, between Shimron Hetmyer and Trevon Griffith, in which Hetmyer smashed 41, inclusive of 4 sixes and 2 fours, Johnson’s X1 could only muster 109 all out from 32.1 overs. The only other batsmen to reach double figures were Trevon Griffith, 16 and Ramaal Lewis, 15.
Bowling for Singhl’s X1, Gudakesh Motie claimed the impressive figures of 5 for 22 from 10 overs, of which 4 overs were maidens, fast bowler Keon Joseph grabbed 2 for 28 from 4 overs, while Kevin Sinclair and Devendra Bishoo respectively took 1 for 12 from 7 overs and 1 for 9 from 4.1 overs.
In reply, Singh’s X1 made light work of the victory target, reaching 110 for 4 from just 19.3 overs. Kevlon Anderson opening the batting and Tagenarine Chanderpaul batting at number 5, blazed the trail to victory with 34 and 28 not out respectively. Anderson stroke a solitary boundary in his innings before being caught by Ronaldo Alimohamed off the bowling of Ramaal Lewis but was obviously very selective and purposeful in his approach, whereas, Chanderpaul
exhibited a more aggressive approach to batting, hitting 2 sixes and 3 fours in his unbeaten knock. Tevin Imlach contributed a valuable 17. Bowling for Johnson’s X1, Christopher Barnwell grabbed 2 for 28 from 6 overs. Ramaal Lewis 1 for 3 from 2 overs and Chandrapaul Hemraj 1 for 9 from 4 overs. Singh’s X1 won by 6 wickets.
The third and final practice match for the Guyana Jaguars is set for this Friday at the same venue.
